Cockburn School and Cockburn John Charles Academy are proud to be celebrating the results of their Year 11 leavers who have achieved at the highest level categorised by the Department for Education as 'Well Above Average'. Students at both schools achieved over half a grade higher in each qualification on average, compared to similar students across the country. Both schools are in the country's top 16% of schools for progress and in the top 8% of schools in the Yorkshire and Humber region.
This was all achieved during a challenging national picture with results dropping significantly across the country.
These results are testament to the tenacity and diligence of the students, along with the world-class teaching and learning provided by teachers and support staff in every single lesson, ensuring that students are equipped with the knowledge, understanding and resilience to achieve beyond their expected progress.
Siobhan Roberts, Head of School at Cockburn John Charles Academy, said 'It makes me immensely proud of the hard work and dedication of all students, teachers and support staff that we can celebrate such an outstanding set of results, which is the result of 5 years of hard work and preparation. These results will enable our leavers to move onto their preferred post-16 destination equipped with the confidence instilled by the Cockburn MAT Values and Expectations.”
Rob Dixon, Head of School at Cockburn School, said “We are exceptionally proud of all our students who worked very hard to achieve another great set of results. They achieved our highest ever results for the proportion of students securing Grade 5+ in English and mathematics with almost half of the year group achieving this strong pass. These results are testament to their hard work and the superb support from staff across school who have invested time and effort in equipping students with the skills and knowledge they needed to succeed! The results demonstrate again, the high quality of education that we provide to our students, and we are very grateful to our team who support this each day.”
David Gurney, Cockburn MAT Executive Headteacher, said “The results that our young people from south Leeds have achieved are tremendous. They are a proof of the importance of our vision to create a group of exceptional schools that radically improve students’ life chances. The hard work and determination of the students and the staff’s commitment to raise attainment and provide exceptional teaching and learning for all our students through high expectations of academic success and behaviour, has led to these results. There is something unique about the schools in our MAT. I am fortunate to work alongside such dedicated teams that are relentless in their determination to secure the very best outcomes for the young people. Congratulations again to the Class of 2023!”
